Principal & Vice Principal’s Message:

Welcome to Lake Cowichan School – a place to learn, form friendships, and have fun. Staff and students at Lake Cowichan School work, learn, and play each day on the unceded territory of the Ts’uubaa-asatx Nation. Our amazing staff works hard to provide challenging academic programs, extensive opportunities for students in the arts, tech and community service, and to continue a strong commitment to excellence. We strive to honour the traditions of the past all the while creating innovations for the future. We encourage students to take advantage of these opportunities and we will do everything we can to help students be successful.

Together students are learning, discovering, taking risks and developing life-long friendships in an environment that is safe, caring, supportive and responsive. To help with this, the school encourages parents and guardians to be supportive of the school’s policies and encourages parental involvement as needed and as appropriate.

August, 2023

Welcome Back Everyone!

First of all, I would like to introduce myself as the new Principal of LCS, Ms. Jennie Hittinger. I have had the great fortune of returning to the Lake as I was your temporary Principal for the last part of the 2022-2023 school year.

I have held a variety of roles over my 25 years in the district. My first job when I arrived in the Cowichan Valley School District, was teaching Math, Science and Physical Education at Chemainus Secondary and then becoming a Vice Principal there in 2017. I then joined the team at Cowichan Secondary from there CVOL (Open Learning) and finally arriving here in Lake Cowichan. I am thrilled to be returning and working with you as your Principal! The Lake has a special feel as it reminds me of the small community school that I enjoyed in my time at Chemainus. I look forward to connecting with the community, staff and parents. Please feel free to come by and say hello!

We hope that everyone had a fantastic and restful summer and students are ready to get back to school and do some learning. We are all very much looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, September 5 at 9:00. The first day will be a full day for ALL grades, so please ensure students bring their supplies, water bottle and any snacks they may need for the day. Also, a reminder in order to keep everyone healthy, please ensure that your child(ren) are feeling healthy before sending them to school each day. If they are not well, call the office and keep them home until they are feeling better and able to fully return to their regular activities.

Busing Info: All students need to register (or re-register) for busing through our Transportation Department at: Register here

Opening Day: Tuesday, September 5:

Grade 4-7 students: Please report to the front field where Ms. Bell will organize students into groupings with the help of all our elementary teachers. There will be many staff there to help students find their way. Students will be with their group in a classroom for the morning.

Grade 8-12 students: Please will come to the gym for a brief assembly and to locate their Block A/Advisory teacher and room. Block A/room lists will be posted inside the gym.  Students will start their day with their Block A teacher and then do a mini-block rotation to go to each of their semester 1 classes for the rest of the morning.

To kick off a great 2023-24 school year, we will be hosting a full school bbq from 12:05-12:50pm.

Reminder – there will be no lunch program until the second week of school, so please bring a lunch and a snack starting on first day and for the remainder of the week.

Wednesday, September 6: Regular block rotation

We can’t wait to see everyone!
